How can I use Yashica screw-on conversion lenses with a Sigma SA-7?

I have a Sigma SA-7 and two Yashica accessories labeled Yashicor Y503 telephoto and Yashica Y504 wide. They appear to be 55mm. I want to know what adapter I need to use them with my Sigma 70-300mm and 28-80mm lenses. Are these mount adapters, or do I need a step-up/step-down ring based on filter thread size?

You have not provided enough information (pictures) to identify the mounts on your lenses.

  • The "lenses" you mention appear to be conversion lenses that screw onto the filter threads of other real lenses. Look for a symbol that looks like a circle with a line crossed through it (∅) on the lens you wish to use them with. The number following the symbol is the filter size of the lens in millimeters. You will need a step-up or step-down ring from that size to the size of the conversion lenses, which you have indicated is 55mm.

    Such conversion lenses are essentially toys that significantly degrade the quality of the image. They cannot even be given away for the price of shipping. You are better off seeking better real lenses for your camera.

  • If the Yashica lenses you describe are not conversion lenses, there is likely no existing adapter to use them on Sigma SA mount because the SA mount is not popular enough. Only two adapters are returned when searching a popular auction site for SA mount adapters:

    • M42-SA adapter
    • Hasselblad V-SA tilt-shift adapter

    Neither appears suitable for Yashica lenses.

These do not sound like interchangeable-mount lenses for the Sigma SA-7. They are most likely screw-on front conversion lenses that attach to a lens’s filter threads.

What you need to check is the filter thread size on each Sigma lens. Look on the front of the lens for a diameter mark such as “ø55mm,” “ø58mm,” etc. If the Yashica converters are 55mm thread, then:

  • if your lens is also 55mm, they should screw on directly;
  • if your lens has a different filter size, you need a step-up or step-down ring from your lens’s filter thread size to 55mm.

So this is not about finding a Sigma SA mount adapter brand; it is about matching filter-thread sizes.

Also, these screw-on wide/tele converters generally reduce image quality quite a bit, so expectations should be modest. If your goal is better telephoto or wide-angle performance, dedicated Sigma SA-mount lenses are usually a better option.
