How can I shoot more than 3 bracketed exposures on a Canon 5D Mark II without touching the camera between sets?

I’m using a Canon 5D Mark II and want to capture more than the built-in 3-shot AEB sequence while minimizing camera movement for HDR brackets. My current workaround is to shoot one 3-frame bracket, then change shutter speed by 2 EV and shoot another 3-frame bracket, but touching the camera to change settings causes alignment issues. Is there a better way to capture a longer bracket sequence on the 5D Mark II without adjusting settings between sets? Also, when using an external shutter release, can AEB run automatically without relying on the 2-second self-timer?

The magic lantern custom firmware for the 5D2 offers extended exposure bracketing up to 13 shots, so you don't have to alter any settings part way through.

The firmware is loaded from CF card and only lasts until powered down.

Yes. A practical way to avoid touching the camera between bracket sets is to use Magic Lantern on the 5D Mark II. Community members note that it adds extended auto exposure bracketing, allowing up to 13 shots in one sequence, so you don’t need to change shutter speed partway through and risk shifting the camera.

Another option mentioned is using a smartphone remote-control app with the appropriate cable. That can help trigger the camera without physical contact and may simplify running bracketed sequences.

In general, the best way to reduce alignment problems is to avoid touching the camera at all during the full bracket, use a remote release, and let the camera complete the entire sequence in one run if possible.
