I'm looking for an affordable way to create film-style edits in Lightroom, including both color and black-and-white looks. Are there any good plugins or preset options that work well with Lightroom, or is it better to build the look manually?

There is nice third-party add-on from Google called Nik. It was paid but they released it free. It cooperates nicely with Photoshop and Lightroom.
