How can I change Nikon Z6 U1/U2/U3 from Program mode to another exposure mode?

On my Nikon Z6, one of my custom user modes (U1/U2/U3) seems to be saved in Program (P) mode, and the camera keeps making automatic exposure adjustments when I use it. I want that user mode to use a different exposure mode instead. How do I change or overwrite the saved U1/U2/U3 settings?

You need to be in another mode and then save the settings to U1/2/3 to overwrite them being in P mode. That will also overwrite other settings as well, so make sure they are set as desired first.

U1/U2/U3 on the Nikon Z6 are saved snapshots of camera settings, including the exposure mode. If a user mode is currently set to P, you can’t just “turn off P” while staying in that saved setup.
Instead, switch the camera to a regular shooting mode first, set the exposure mode you want (such as A, S, or M), then set any other options the way you want them, and save those settings back to U1, U2, or U3. This overwrites the previous user-mode setup.
Important: saving to a user mode will also overwrite its other stored settings, so check everything before saving.
