Do Lightroom plug-ins carry over when you update to a new version on Mac?

On macOS, Lightroom has a plug-ins folder inside the Lightroom application package. If I install a plug-in there, will it still be there after updating Lightroom to a newer version, or could the update remove it?

Plugins are retained when you upgrade. However, there is no guarantee that they will work properly with the new version of Lightroom. If the plugin is still maintained, there will probably be an update if this is necessary.

Lightroom plug-ins are generally retained when you upgrade, but compatibility is the bigger concern. A newer Lightroom version may not work properly with an older plug-in, even if the plug-in is still present. If the plug-in is actively maintained, the developer will often provide an update if needed. As a best practice, keep a backup of any manually installed plug-ins and check the plug-in developer’s compatibility notes before or after upgrading Lightroom.
