Canon Rebel T6 lagging and producing blurry photos after a drop

I dropped my Canon Rebel T6. It still powers on, but in several shooting modes there is now a noticeable delay and the photos can come out blurry. Resetting settings helped in some modes but not others. I checked multiple modes and the problem appears in Night Portrait, Sports, Food, P, Flash Off, and Landscape. What should I inspect after a drop to figure out whether this is a setting issue or physical damage?

Did any button get visibly moshed in? That tends to get them stuck in a pressed-down state, which is really good at confusing electronics.

Also, fire the camera without a lens, on a slow speed, and observe whether the mirror seems to be working as expected.

Also, check if any kind of self timer or multiframe NR/HDR/bracketing mode got accidentally activated.

Also, if you haven't done so yet, try using another lens - a partially jammed lens could delay exposure in multiple ways.

A drop can cause either an accidental setting change or a mechanical problem.

Check these first:

  • Make sure no button is stuck or pushed in, which can confuse the camera.
  • Confirm you didn’t accidentally enable self-timer, bracketing, HDR, or multi-frame noise reduction, all of which can add delay.
  • Try a different lens if you have one. A damaged or partially jammed lens can cause delayed operation and blurry images.
  • Remove the lens and fire the camera at a slow shutter speed while watching whether the mirror/shutter mechanism seems to move normally.

Because the issue only affects some modes, settings are possible, but since it started right after a drop, physical damage is also very possible. If the checks above don’t identify the problem, the camera should be inspected or serviced.
