Canon Rebel T4i shutter sounds very slow or seems stuck

A “slow” shutter sound doesn’t always mean the shutter is failing. First, check whether the camera is using a long shutter speed because of low light or certain settings. In Auto, Av, or low-light situations, the camera may choose a slow exposure, which makes it sound delayed. Also check if a self-timer, mirror lockup, long-exposure noise reduction, or continuous/live view setting is affecting timing.

Try this quick test: switch to Manual mode, set a fast shutter speed like 1/200 or 1/500, use a normal drive mode, turn off the self-timer, and take a shot in good light. If it still sounds unusually slow or inconsistent, the shutter or mirror mechanism may have a mechanical problem.

Also try another lens, remove and reinsert the battery, and reset the camera settings. If the problem continues across lenses and settings, the camera likely needs inspection or service.
