Why is my Nikon D3500 slow to take photos and review images?

My Nikon D3500 has become very slow over the last 6 months. Sometimes it hesitates or fails to capture an image even in good natural light, and playback is also delayed when I try to review photos or scroll through them. I’ve already reset settings, charged the battery, and cleared/formatted memory cards. What could be causing this, and what should I test first?

First test, throw away all your old cards & buy new ones. From your symptom description is it far more likely to be a card [or potentially contacts] issue than camera.
SD cards are far from indestructible. They get sector errors which will slow down read/write operations.
