My Canon PowerShot A2400 got slightly damp after being in a backpack on a rainy day. Since then, it powers on and otherwise seems normal, but when I press the shutter it focuses and then won’t actually take the picture. I also sometimes see a lens error. I’ve already removed the battery for over an hour and reinstalled it, but the problem is unchanged. Is there anything practical I can do, or is this likely not worth repairing?

The simple answer is "you don't even try to fix it", you buy a different camera instead. Yes, it's somewhat bad to throw tech away, but this is a 13 year old model which you can pick up on eBay for less than a professional would charge you to open it up and look at it.

This sounds like moisture damage, likely affecting the lens or shutter mechanism. Since the camera still powers on and focuses but won’t complete the shot, and you’re seeing an occasional lens error, the issue is probably internal rather than something a simple reset will fix.

For a compact camera like the PowerShot A2400, repair is usually not economical. Professional service would likely cost more than the camera is worth on the used market, especially for an older point-and-shoot model.

Practical advice: don’t invest in a repair unless the camera has strong sentimental value. Replacement is the most sensible option.
