Canon EOS Rebel T3i shows Error 70 after saltwater splash — repair or replace?

My Canon EOS Rebel T3i was lightly splashed with saltwater. It would not turn on for a few days, but now it powers up. However, when I try to take a photo, it displays Error 70 and restarting the camera or reinstalling the battery does not help. Canon no longer services this model. Given possible saltwater damage, is repair likely to be worthwhile, or is replacing the camera body the better option?

A saltwater splash can cause internal corrosion, and that damage may continue even if the camera powers back on. Error 70 on a T3i after water exposure strongly suggests an internal electronics fault rather than a simple battery issue.
Since Canon no longer services this model, and water-damage repairs can add up quickly with no guarantee of a lasting fix, replacement is usually the more practical choice. A used replacement body is likely to make more sense than paying for third-party diagnosis and repair on an older camera.
If the camera still has any moisture exposure risk, remove the battery immediately and do not keep powering it on, as that can worsen damage. But based on the symptoms and the saltwater exposure, you should expect the body to be unreliable even if it occasionally starts up.

The corrosion water can cause is amazing. If anything ever gets wet, power down and remove the battery and drop into a container of rice.
Remove after a few days and test. If it works, great! If not, well, I found used t3i's going for $230-ish bucks. That most certainly means that you'd be better off just getting a new body over attempting to get a repair.
