Can you use a Canon 7D Mark II with the memory card door broken or missing?

The memory card door on my Canon 7D Mark II has broken off, and I can’t replace it right away. The camera won’t operate because it detects the card compartment as open. Is there any way to bypass or override this so I can keep using the camera temporarily?

Yes—on the 7D Mark II, the card door normally presses a small micro-switch in the camera body. If that switch is held in the “closed” position, the camera should operate even if the door is broken or missing.
There isn’t a normal menu setting to override this. Any workaround would involve carefully engaging that tiny switch yourself.
Use caution: the switch is delicate, and damaging it could make the camera unusable or require a more expensive repair. Treat this only as a temporary workaround until the card door can be properly replaced.
