I have a Canon EOS 7D Mark II and want to use an Insignia NS-WSCC remote shutter release. The remote instructions say to set the camera to IR mode, but I can’t find that in the camera manual. How do I enable the correct setting on the 7D Mark II for an infrared remote?

Pages 248-9 of the 7D Mark II Instruction Manual cover how to use a compatible infrared remote with your camera.
To set the Drive Mode to one of the remote modes:
- Press the Drive-AF button on the top of the camera, just in front of the top LCD panel.
- Rotate the large Quick Control Dial on the back of the camera until the timer symbol (looks like a small flashlight and a stopwatch) appears in the viewfinder and in the lower left corner of the LCD panel.
- If there is no number next to the timer the camera will operate when you press the button on the remote. (Please note that the same symbol is used for a 10 second delay when using the camera's built-in shutter button).
- If there is a "2" displayed with the timer symbol, the camera will wait 2 seconds before operating after you press the remote button.

On the 7D Mark II, there usually isn’t a menu item called “IR mode.” Instead, you use a remote-compatible Drive Mode.
Set the camera to one of the self-timer/remote modes:
- Press the Drive/AF button on the top of the camera.
- Turn the Quick Control Dial until you see the self-timer/remote icon.
- Choose either:
- remote/immediate trigger, or
- 2-second remote delay.
With that mode selected, aim a compatible infrared remote at the front of the camera and press the remote’s shutter button.
For the 7D Mark II, see the “Remote Control Shooting” section of the manual (community answers point to pages 248–249).
Important: this only works if the Insignia NS-WSCC is compatible with Canon’s infrared remote system. If it isn’t, the camera won’t respond even when the correct Drive Mode is selected.
