Can you turn off or heavily dim the LCD on a Fujifilm X-M1?

I want to use a Fujifilm X-M1 with an external viewfinder to save battery power. Since the X-M1 has no built-in EVF, this would only help if the rear live-view screen can be turned off, or at least dimmed very close to black.
Is there a way to disable the LCD completely, or set it to a very low brightness on the X-M1?

The Fuji X-M1's LCD is adjustable and the lowest intensity is indeed quite dark. There is no way to disable it completely though as Fuji probably expects the camera to be useless without it. Keep in mind that the best increase in battery-life is achieved by not using the built-in flash.

On the Fujifilm X-M1, you can reduce the LCD brightness, and the lowest setting is quite dim. However, there does not appear to be a way to turn the screen off completely during normal shooting.
So if you plan to use an external viewfinder, the rear display can be darkened but not fully disabled.
If battery life is your main goal, also note that avoiding use of the built-in flash can make a bigger difference than LCD dimming alone.
