Can the Nikon D5600 stay in self-timer mode for multiple shots?

On my Nikon D5600, if I set the release mode to self-timer and take a photo, it switches back to single-frame release afterward. I have to reselect self-timer before every shot. Is there a setting to keep self-timer enabled for multiple photos, or is this normal behavior on the D5600 and similar Nikon DSLRs?

This isn't something you can do with the camera. It's very maddening, I know.
However, there is a workaround: use an external intervalometer that allows you to set the delay after pressing the shutter release. You rely on the intervalometer itself, rather than the camera's timer delay.
There are several choices of wired intervalometers available for little money.

On the Nikon D5600, this is normal behavior: the camera’s self-timer mode does not stay selected after each shot. Based on the community answer, there isn’t a camera setting to make it remain in self-timer mode indefinitely for repeated single shots.
A practical workaround is to use an external wired intervalometer or remote timer. Instead of relying on the camera’s built-in self-timer, you set the delay on the intervalometer and trigger the camera that way. That lets you keep shooting with a delay without having to reselect self-timer every time.
