I have a Nikon Coolpix P500 and can’t find an original Nikon battery locally. What battery model does it use, and are third-party replacements or an external power option available?

According to page 213 of the User Manual, the Nikon P500 uses a EN-EL5 battery.
The Nikon EP-62A AC adapter is compatible with the P500, and replaces the battery in the camera with a battery-shaped adapter that can be plugged into an external power source.

Yes. The Nikon Coolpix P500 uses the EN-EL5 battery. If you can’t find an original Nikon version, compatible third-party EN-EL5 batteries are widely available from reputable brands and sellers, and they are a practical option.
For external power, the P500 is also compatible with the Nikon EP-62A AC adapter system. This uses a battery-shaped coupler in the camera and connects to an external power source, which is useful for indoor or stationary use.
So your main options are:
- a compatible EN-EL5 replacement battery
- the EP-62A AC power adapter/coupler for wall power
If buying third-party batteries, it’s best to choose a reputable brand and seller.
