Can the Canon Rebel XSi shoot an automatic exposure bracket for HDR?

I have a Canon Rebel XSi and want to shoot a short bracketed sequence for HDR—ideally by pressing and holding the shutter so the camera takes about three frames at different exposures, such as -2, 0, and +2 EV. Does the XSi support this, and if so, what setting should I use? If not, what feature or camera capability should I look for on other models?

Sure. I think its named AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing) on the Xsi menu. (On newer models it's Expo.comp/AEB) The Rebel Xsi supports up to -2 and +2. You will have to set your camera to manual or Av (Aperature Priority) as the AEB menu option will not be available under Auto.

Yes. On the Canon Rebel XSi, this feature is called AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing). It can bracket exposures up to -2 EV and +2 EV around the metered exposure.

To use it, set the camera to a creative mode such as Manual or Av (Aperture Priority); the AEB option is not available in full Auto. Once AEB is enabled, the camera can capture a 3-shot bracket such as -2, 0, and +2 EV for HDR work. Using continuous drive mode will typically make it easier to capture the bracket quickly with one press/hold of the shutter.

If you’re shopping other cameras, look for “auto exposure bracketing” support, especially models that allow wider or more flexible bracketing sequences.
