Can the Canon RA-E3 remote adapter be bought separately, and does it work with any E3-equipped body?

I’m trying to find the Canon RA-E3 remote controller adapter (or a third-party equivalent) outside of the EOS 60Da bundle. Is it sold separately, and will it let accessories with an N3 connector work on any Canon camera body that uses the E3 remote socket (stereo mini plug)?

The adapter should work to allow any accessories with an N3 connector to be used with a Canon camera having an E3 (stereo mini plug) socket.

Amazon once sold such an adapter in the U.S., but it is not currently available. However, many of the third party accessories that are available with one connector are also available with the other and are usually fairly cheap. There's even a TC80N3 knockoff that comes with adapters for almost every imaginable camera that uses the basic three wire shutter release.

This seller in the Netherlands currently lists such an adapter as available. This seller is presumably in Asia.

Yes. The RA-E3 type adapter is intended to let accessories with an N3 connector work on Canon cameras that use the E3 remote socket (the stereo mini plug style). In general, it should work with any body that has an E3 socket for this purpose.

If you can’t find the Canon-branded adapter separately, third-party equivalents have been available, though availability varies by seller and region. Another practical option is to buy the remote accessory you need with the correct connector from the start, since many third-party remotes and intervalometers are sold in both N3 and E3 versions. Some knockoff timer remotes also include multiple adapters for different camera connector types.
