Can Lightroom 4 manually mark a failed SmugMug publish as published?

I’m using Lightroom 4 on Windows 7 with a SmugMug publish service. A large video upload reported a timeout in Lightroom, but the video actually uploaded successfully and is viewable on SmugMug. Lightroom still shows it in “New Photos to Publish,” so it will try to upload it again next time. Is there a way to manually mark that item as published so Lightroom treats it as already uploaded?

The "mark as up-to-date" option is only available for items that have already been published and flagged to be re-published.

In Lightroom 4, not directly for items still in New Photos to Publish. The built-in Mark as Up-to-Date command only works for items that were already successfully published and are now flagged for re-publish.
So if Lightroom never recorded the first publish as successful, there isn’t an in-app way to manually flip that item to published status.
The only workaround mentioned is via the Lightroom SDK: a plugin can use LrPublishedCollection:addPhotoByRemoteId to add the item as already published, provided you can supply the remote ID and URL from SmugMug. That’s a developer solution rather than a normal Lightroom command.
So, practically:
- If it was previously published: use Mark as Up-to-Date.
- If it’s still in New Photos to Publish after a false failure: Lightroom 4 has no built-in manual override; a custom plugin is required.
