Can I use free Windows software with an NEC MDSVSENSOR3 colorimeter?

I have an NEC MDSVSENSOR3 colorimeter and want to calibrate a monitor on Windows 7 Pro. I no longer have the SpectraView II license key, and I’d prefer not to buy another colorimeter. Is there any free software that can work with this device?

The NEC MDSVSensor3 is the same colorimeter as the X1 i1 Display Pro. It is modified to work only on NEC wide gamut monitors. But at this point it wouldn't hurt to try using DisplayCAL (formerly known as dispcalGUI) that is open source and lists the X1 i1 Display Pro as compatible. From the DisplayCAL page:
X-Rite i1 Display Pro, ColorMunki Display (since Argyll CMS 1.3.4. The HP DreamColor, NEC SpectraSensor Pro and SpectraCal C6 versions of the instrument are also reported to work)

Yes. A good free option to try is DisplayCAL (formerly dispcalGUI). Based on the community answer, the NEC MDSVSENSOR3 is essentially the same hardware as the X-Rite i1 Display Pro, though NEC’s version was modified for NEC wide-gamut displays. DisplayCAL is open-source and has reported compatibility with the i1 Display Pro and related variants, including NEC-branded versions.
So the most practical answer is: install DisplayCAL and see if it detects your sensor. Compatibility may depend on the specific monitor and the NEC firmware limitations, but it’s the main free option mentioned that may work with your device.
If your sensor is locked to certain NEC monitors, free software may still be limited by that hardware restriction rather than the software itself.
