Can I control a Nikon D3200 from an Android tablet over USB?

I have a Nikon D3200 and an Android tablet. On my PC I can control the camera with digiCamControl, and I’d like to know whether I can do something similar from Android.

Is it possible to connect the D3200 to an Android device with a USB cable and use the tablet as a remote control to take photos? If so, what do I need and are there apps that support this?

Yes, but it would depend on what Android device you have. DslrDashboard claims to support it on some Android devices:

To be able to use the application with your USB connected DSLR you will need an Android device that supports the USB host function and an USB OTG adapter that you can buy cheap on internet or build it yourself.

The application is free, GPLv3-licensed, and can be found here:

Yes—this can be possible on Android, but it depends on your tablet/phone.

For a USB connection, your Android device needs to support USB host/OTG mode. If it does, you can connect the Nikon D3200 with a USB OTG adapter and use an app such as DSLRDashboard, which was reported to support USB-connected DSLR control on some Android devices.

Another option mentioned is Nikon’s mobile app, which can remotely browse photos and take pictures, though that approach depends on the camera/app compatibility rather than plain USB control.

So the short answer is: yes, but only if your Android device supports USB OTG/host and the app supports the D3200. Check your tablet’s OTG support first, then look for compatible Nikon remote-control apps.
