Is there any way to programmatically control a Sony DSC-HX200V through its USB port, for example for tethered shooting or remote operation from a computer? I could not find any official information or software support and want to know whether this model supports it at all.

What you are trying to do is called tethering
This function can be developed in a software if the camera manufacturer allows the use of its firmware (like opening-up the source code), in this model NOT. Even the new Adobe Lightroom does not support it. So you have to everything manually.

What you’re describing is generally called tethering or USB remote control. Based on the information provided, the Sony DSC-HX200V does not support this kind of programmatic control over USB. In practice, that means there is no known official firmware/software support for tethered shooting or computer control on this model, and even common photo software support was noted as unavailable. So for this camera, operation would need to be done manually rather than through USB control.
