CamOne vs GoPro for cycling video

I'm choosing between a CamOne and a GoPro for recording cycling trips. They seem to be in a similar price range, and I mainly want a durable action camera that gives decent video quality and can be edited later in Final Cut Pro. One thing I like about the CamOne is the built-in LCD screen.

What practical pros and cons should I consider for cycling use, especially around durability, mounting options, battery life, ease of aiming, and overall suitability for action footage?

My recommendation would be the GoPro. I have the Hero HD and purchased the LCD screen... And never needed it. They operate with a fairly wide angle even at 1080 so simple aiming will negate the need for an LCD. Also, during its primary intended use, you aren't using the LCD screen so you should think of it like a conventional camera where an LCD is crucial. The lack of LCD also saves battery time immensely and the thing is unbelievably light.

With cycling you're going to enjoy the flexibility of all the GoPro attachments (helmet, bars, chest). Chest attachment is the popular choice among sports users as it provides the most stability. Unrelated, but I can also tell you that the suction cup is superb underwater :-)

For cycling, the answers strongly favor the GoPro.

Main advantages mentioned:

  • Very light, small, and durable, which matters on a bike.
  • Strong ecosystem of mounts, including helmet, handlebar, and especially chest mounts; chest mounting was noted as giving stable footage.
  • Wide-angle view makes aiming less critical, so a rear LCD is often less necessary in real use.
  • Skipping the LCD can also help battery life.
  • It has a strong track record in harsh sports use, including downhill cycling and other extreme activities.

Potential downside relative to the CamOne:

  • If you really value framing and playback on the camera itself, an LCD can be convenient.

Based on the community experience, GoPro is the safer choice if your priority is a rugged, proven cycling/action camera with flexible mounting and decent results. If the LCD is your top concern, CamOne may still appeal, but for actual on-bike use the wide angle and mount options make the GoPro more practical.
