Are there good online tools to compare DSLR/SLR cameras by features and price?

I’m looking for an online tool where I can enter required camera features and a budget, then filter through a broad list of DSLR/SLR cameras. Amazon search hasn’t been very reliable because some features seem to be tagged incorrectly. Are there better sites for comparing and narrowing down cameras?

Yes. Community recommendations point to a few useful options:

  • DPReview camera database: best for more in-depth research and product filtering/comparisons.
  • Snapsort and LensHero: useful for quick, high-level comparisons.

The main caution from the answers is that Snapsort can overstate small spec differences and present them as major advantages. For example, metrics like shutter lag or aggregated “image quality” scores may be shown in a way that sounds dramatic without reflecting real-world use. So it’s fine for a first pass, but don’t rely on it alone.

A good approach is:

  1. Use a comparison/filter site to narrow candidates by key features and budget.
  2. Verify the short list with more detailed reviews and specs, especially on DPReview.
  3. Treat score-based rankings and headline differences skeptically, and focus on the features that actually matter for your shooting.

So: DPReview for serious filtering/research, Snapsort or LensHero for quick comparisons.
