Are there apps or websites that calculate sunrise/sunset with terrain obstructions?

I’m looking for a planning tool for landscape photography that goes beyond standard sunrise/sunset times and accounts for mountains or other terrain blocking the horizon. Ideally, it would show when the sun or moon actually becomes visible from a location, and possibly help compare nearby viewpoints over a wider area. Are there apps, websites, or desktop tools that use elevation/topography data to estimate actual sunrise/sunset visibility?

The Photographer's Ephemeris is a very popular app used by landscape photographers who need to know when the Moon/Sun is going to be at specific spots. It may be of great help to you.

Yes. A commonly recommended option is The Photographer’s Ephemeris, which is widely used by landscape photographers for planning sun and moon position relative to a location. For terrain-aware sunrise/sunset specifically, one answer also recommends suncurves.com, a free web tool that calculates actual sunrise and sunset times while accounting for terrain. If you want a more visual, approximate preview, Google Earth Pro can also help: in 3D mode you can change the time of day and see how topography affects shadows and visibility. In short: The Photographer’s Ephemeris is a strong general planning app, suncurves.com is suggested for terrain-adjusted rise/set times, and Google Earth Pro can provide a useful visual cross-check.
