Nikon’s WR-R10 wireless transceiver and WR-T10 transmitter are often mentioned with the D5200, but can they also be used with older Nikon DSLRs such as the D90 or D7000? I’ve also seen the WR-A10 adapter, which converts a camera’s 10-pin remote terminal to the newer accessory terminal used by the WR-R10. Which cameras actually need the adapter, and is it required for the D90 or D7000?

The Nikon US page says the WR-R10/T10 are compatible with both cameras: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Remote-Transmitters/WR-R10-Wireless-Remote-Controller-%28transceiver%29.html

You need both devices, since the T10 transmits and the R10 receives. (The UK page isn't clear about it, but shows the same lineup of cameras in the "Related products" tab.)

The WR-A10 is used on other cameras to adapt the R10 module to the camera body. You won't need this for the D90 or D7000.

Yes. According to Nikon’s compatibility information referenced in the community answers, the WR-R10 and WR-T10 are compatible with the D90 and D7000.

You need both units for wireless operation: the WR-T10 is the transmitter, and the WR-R10 is the receiver/transceiver that connects to the camera.

The WR-A10 adapter is for cameras that need to convert a 10-pin remote terminal to the newer accessory connection used by the WR-R10. Based on the answers provided, you do not need the WR-A10 for the D90 or D7000.
