The Canon 7D Mark II is a professional DSLR camera that is capable of producing a rich image and video quality, no matter what the lighting conditions. It is compatible with both Canon EF and EF-S mount lenses. The camera’s 20.2 APS-C CMOS Sensor and dual DIGIC 6 image processor not only help capture clear shots during low light, but also help in continuous shooting at up to 10 fps. The focusing job is handled by the 65-point all cross-type AF system and dual pixel CMOS AF. This Canon camera incorporates both iSA (Intelligent Scene Analysis) and iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) AF systems for accurate exposure metering. In addition to the built-in flash, the camera offers the option of fixing an external flash with its hot shoe and PC terminal. The external flash can be synchronized with the shutter at 1/250th of a second. You may use the self-timer to delay the shutter release by up to 10 seconds. The camera is also equipped with a 1/8-inch microphone and headphone port for recording audio while making a video. The dust- and weather-resistant magnesium body makes it convenient to use the Canon 7D Mark II in almost any condition.

Optics and Focus

The Canon 7D Mark II DSLR integrates the iSA system that uses a 150,000-pixel RGB metering sensor, which contributes to the iTR AF for getting accurate exposure metering. The camera includes 65 cross-type AF points that let you precisely focus on the desired areas in a scene. In the video mode, the dual pixel CMOS AF maintains focus on the subject in motion. It is also used in the live view mode in both photo and video functions. The camera has a high native ISO sensitivity of 16000 that can be extended to 51200, giving you more room for adjusting the exposure in different lighting conditions. You may use the mechanical shutter when clicking images of fast-moving objects and counter the rolling-shutter effect. As for the electronic shutter, it helps maintain a low profile while taking the perfect shot of the subject in the frame. Both shutters can work at a maximum speed of 1/8000th of a second.

Sensor and Screen

The Canon 7D Mark II produces 20.2 MP pictures with its APS-C CMOS sensor. A dust-reduction system is integrated into the camera to prevent the sensor from getting dusty. The pentaprism Viewfinder II offers a magnification of 1.0× and an adjustable diopter from -3 to +1 m. In the viewfinder, the camera also gives you a warning if there is a flickering light source in the frame. With the Clear View II LCD screen, the camera offers a live view of the scene at 1040k dot resolution. Both the viewfinder and the LCD screen give a 100% screen coverage.

Image and Video

In the photo mode, the camera can shoot 5472×3648 dpi images in RAW and JPEG formats with a default aspect ratio of 3:2. The camera records full HD videos at 60 fps, thanks to the DIGIC 6 image processor. Also, the image processor boosts the continuous-shooting speed to 10 fps for 31 RAW and 1000 JPEG images. Additionally, the shutter lag and start-up time are reduced to 0.055 seconds and 0.1 seconds, respectively. The camera has a built-in intervalometer that allows you to capture images for making a time-lapse movie that contains up to 99 frames in pre-selected intervals.

Other Features

The Canon EOS 7D Mark II camera has a built-in flash as well as a hot shoe and PC terminal to mount electronic flash heads and FP bulbs. The mounted flash can be synchronized with the shutter at 1/250th of a second. The advanced mirror-vibration control maintains a frame consistency in the continuous-shooting mode. The camera also features various built-in correction tools for enhancing images and eliminating distortions found in them. The USB 3.0 terminal of the camera enables transferring of captured media to your computer. An LP-E6N rechargeable Li-ion battery powers this camera.
