The Voigtlander Bessa R4M Classic is a 35mm film camera having a double focal plane shutter and TTL metering system. This camera is compatible with VM mount lenses. The metering system offers a film speed range of ISO 25–3200 and exposure coupling range of EV 1 to EV 19 with an ISO 100 film. The Reverse Galileo Finder gives a 0.52× magnification of the scene. You can mount a flash unit to the accessory shoe located at the top. The camera runs on two 1.5V LR44 or SR44 batteries.

Optics and Focus

The camera accepts VM mount lenses. Its center-weighted TTL metering system offers a working range of EV 1 to EV 19 with an ISO 100 film when the aperture is set at f/4 for the shutter speed of 1 second and f/16 for 1/2000th of a second. The coincidence focusing system lets you capture images from a minimum distance of 0.7 m. Use the Bulb mode to take long exposure shots.

Sensor and Screen

The camera has the Reverse Galileo Finder with bright frame markings for 21, 25, 28, 35, and 50mm lenses. With the viewfinder, you get a 0.52× image magnification. There are LED indicators in the viewfinder that show the current exposure as well as over and underexposure markings. The parallax of the image also gets automatically corrected as per the focal length of the mounted lens.

Image and Video

This Voigtlander film camera takes photographs with 35mm films. You have to turn the ratcheting lever 120° in a single stroke or a series of strokes. The advance lever also offers a 45° stand-off angle. A dedicated button and crank is provided to rewind the film once it reaches the end of the roll. The camera has a lock system to prevent double exposure.

Other Features

The camera sports an accessory shoe with x-sync, which allows you to mount a flash device. Once the flash is mounted to the camera, you can synchronize it with the shutter speed at 1/125th of a second or slower. Check whether the batteries are functional or not by lightly pressing the shutter release button. The camera functions on two 1.5V LR44 alkaline or SR44 silver oxide batteries.
