Optics and Focus

In this Panasonic camera kit, you receive a LUMIX S 24–105mm F4 Lens along with the Panasonic LUMIX S1. Other L-mount lenses in the LUMIX S-series can also be fitted to the camera. The lens construction has 16 optical elements in 13 groups. There are 2 aspherical and 2 ED glasses that minimize both chromatic and spherical aberrations. The lens structure suits macro photography, enabling you to take pictures 0.3 m away from the object. The AF motor of the lens integrates with the camera's DFD autofocus technology to provide responsive performance in 0.08 seconds even in low light down to -6EV. When framing subjects for portrait shots, the Face and Eye Detection springs into action to keep the focus pinned on them. Also, the Advanced AI Technology contributes to the autofocus operation by tracking subjects even when their backs are facing the camera.

Sensor and Screen

The Panasonic LUMIX S1 is armed with the 24.2 MP full-frame MOS sensor for carrying out the imaging work. As the low pass filter is omitted from the sensor design, the overall sharpness is increased. The sensor also has an aspherical lens adapted to enhance light condensation. An AR coating is applied on the sensor to prevent ghosting and flare especially when you are shooting in backlighting. You can tilt the 3.2-inch rear LCD in three directions to get an easy view of the scene from different angles. The 5760k-dot OLED live viewfinder simplifies exposure monitoring when composing the shot from eye level. The EVF provides two refresh rate settings of 60 fps or 120 fps that reduce lag when tracking fast-moving objects.

Image and Video

The Panasonic LUMIX S1 mirrorless camera takes photos with a maximum resolution of 6000×4000 pixels in either JPEG or RAW. Thanks to the sRGB and AdobeRGB color space, you can add various industry-standard presets in popular photo editing software. The Venus Engine speeds up the camera performance to support 4K video recording at 60 fps as well as the 6K and 4K continuous shooting modes. Newly included in the LUMIX S1 is the AWBw white balance mode that keeps the skin tone to a reddish tint under fluorescent lighting.

Other Features

The LUMIX S1 is capable of remote shooting and wireless image transfer with its built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. If you are using a multi-camera setup with more than one LUMIX S1s, you can copy and transmit the main camera settings to others for keeping consistency. Two XQD memory cards can be used at the same time for increasing the overall shooting time. You can connect an external microphone to the audio-in port for recording high-quality sound. A headphone jack is provided to monitor the recorded audio. The camera can also be used for tethering with the USB port. On a fully charged 3050 mAh Li-ion battery pack, the LUMIX S1 can capture up to 380 stills shots approximately.
