The Contax TVS II camera is the right pick for simple point-and-shoot photography. This camera comes with a Vario Sonnar 28–56mm f/3.5–6.5 lens. It has a shutter-priority-based AE mode and an external SPD cell-metering system. The camera can be used with DX film formats having an ISO speed of 25–5000. The Contax TVS II has an electronic shutter that can work at the highest speed of 1/700th of a second in program AE and 1/500th of a second in aperture-priority mode. The built-in flash with flashmatic system makes it easy to shoot in dim areas. There are other important features in the camera such as automatic loading, mid-roll rewind, and LCD screen for self-timer, focal-length indication, and bulb-exposure elapsed time.

Optics and Focus

The Contax TVS II comes with a Vario Sonnar 28–56 f/3.5–6.5 lens attached. The optical design of the lens comprises six elements arranged in six groups. It has an autofocus system that enables you to capture a detailed photo of an object even from a minimum distance of 1.6 ft. Moreover, you may use its focus-lock feature by pressing the shutter-release button halfway down. The camera has two types of auto-exposure modes. One is based on aperture priority, while the program AE mode decides the appropriate exposure by adjusting both shutter and aperture. The AE lock avoids high and low exposures when switching to a different light environment.

Sensor and Screen

A real-image zoom viewfinder is attached to this Contax camera, which has a magnification range of 0.38× to 0.68× and offers a screen coverage of 83% at 3 m. In the viewfinder, relevant information such as shutter, exposure compensation, focus display, program AE, and flash are displayed.

Image and Video

The Contax TVS II film camera works with a 35mm film having speeds between ISO 25 and 5000. This camera has a built-in motor for loading and rewinding the film, along with an option to rewind from the middle of the roll. By using an ASA 100 film, you get an exposure value range of EV -0.4 to 17.

Other Features

The Contax TVS II camera has a built-in flash that comes with auto, fill-in flash, and pre-flash modes. Its recycle time is approximately 4 seconds at normal temperature. Also, the flash can function over a range of 3.7 m for 28mm focal length and 2.4 m for 56mm focal length. The camera's self-timer function can be used for setting the shutter release delay up to 10 seconds. The remaining time for the self-timer, current focal-length setting, and bulb-shooting mode are displayed on the LCD screen. This camera is powered by a 3V Lithium battery and has a Titanium housing.
