The Canon EOS 7D Mark II offers consistent performance in both image and video capture with enhanced AF for subject tracking. This camera can be used for both Canon EF and EF-S mount lenses. The 20.2 APS-C CMOS sensor and dual DIGIC 6 image processors offer vibrant picture quality even in low light. The dual pixel CMOS AF and 65-point all cross-type AF system looks after the focusing work. The camera uses both iSA and iTR AF system to ensure precise exposure metering. Along with the built-in flash, a PC terminal and hot shoe is provided to mount an external flash. The camera has a magnesium camera body with dust- and moisture-resistant sealing.

Optics and Focus

The camera comes with the intelligent scene analysis system that supports the iTR AF system by employing the 150000-pixel RGB metering sensor. The camera has 65 cross-type AF points for precise focus setting. Thanks to the dual pixel CMOS AF, the object remains in focus even when it is moving. The native ISO sensitivity of the camera is up to 16000 that can be extended to 51200. By using the mechanical shutter, you can take clear pictures of fast-moving objects without experiencing the rolling shutter effect. The electronic shutter ensures a silent operation, thus making it ideal for wildlife photography. Both mechanical and electronic shutter share a common maximum speed of 1/8000th of a second.

Sensor and Screen

The camera uses an APS-C CMOS sensor to capture 20 MP images. With the dust reduction system, dirt build-up on the sensor is cleaned to ensure image sharpness. The Clear View II LCD screen offers a live view of the scene in 1040k-dot resolution. It has a smudge-resistant coating to prevent fingerprint marks. The pentaprism Intelligent Viewfinder II provides a 1.0× magnified view of the scene. With the adjustable diopter, you can set the eyepoint power within the range of -3 to +1 m. The flicker detection system gives you a warning indication in the viewfinder if there is a light shimmer in the scene. Both viewfinder and LCD screen offer a 100% screen coverage.

Image and video

The camera captures images with a maximum resolution of 5472×3648 dpi in RAW and JPEG format. You can record full HD videos at 60 fps and take continuous shots up to 31 for RAW and 1000 for JPEG at 10 fps. Both the HD recording and burst mode are supported by the DIGIC 6 image processor. It also provides shutter lag of 0.055 seconds and a start-up time of 0.1 seconds. The built-in intervalometer makes you shoot time-lapse sequence up to 99 frames at pre-selected intervals.

Other Features

The camera comes with a built-in flash along with a hot shoe and PC terminal that accept an electronic flash head and FP bulb respectively. You can synchronize the flash up to 1/250th of a second. The improved shutter and mirror drive mechanisms ensure frame consistency in the continuous shooting mode. You can use the in-camera correction tools for reducing chromatic aberrations and other distortions. The 1/8-inch microphone and headphone ports allow you to record and review the sound simultaneously in video mode. The camera functions on an LP-E6N rechargeable Li-ion battery.
