Overview

THIS IS A USED ITEM

Condition: Excellent

The Sony Alpha Nex-3 is a compact digital mirrorless camera with HDR capture capability. It is paired with an E-Series 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS lens. The 14.2 MP APS Exmor CMOS sensor has a larger imaging area than Micro Four Thirds and point-and-shoot cameras. You can click images in the Fine or standard format in either sRGB or Adobe RGB color space. The camera also takes continuous shots at a frame rate of 7 fps, thus allowing you to freeze a fast-paced event in a series of photos. Other picture modes such as sweep panorama and AntiMotion blur bring variety in the overall image taking experience. With the Auto HDR, the camera produces vibrant images containing both highlights and shadow details. You may use the 920K-dot Xtra Fine LCD for compositing the image in both low light and bright conditions. The intelligent autofocus and iAUTO mode handle the camera settings for allowing you to take pictures on the go. You can insert two memory cards in the camera for extending the shooting time. The Nex-3 runs on an infoLITHIUM NP-FW50 battery.

Optics and Focus

The Sony Nex-3 is partnered with the E-Series 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS lens that includes 11 elements in 9 groups. There are aspherical elements in the lens construction to reduce spherical distortions at the edges. The lens offers a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 27–82.5mm. With the internal focusing mechanism, the lens ensures quiet and fast autofocus down to a minimum distance of 25 cm. The Optical SteadyShot image stabilization synchronizes with the camera's in-built image stabilization technology to correct camera shakes. You get smooth bokeh in the background with the rounded 7-blade diaphragm. As for the camera, its contrast autofocus system provides a quick response in 0.3 seconds. The continuous autofocus is ideal to use when shooting videos with moving subjects. With the intelligent autofocus, the camera pre-focuses on the subject in the frame. The iAUTO mode adjusts the camera settings automatically to keep you focused on the scene composition. You may use the optional LA-EA1 adapter to mount Sony A-mount lenses on the camera.

Sensor and Screen

The camera is built around the 14.2 MP APS Exmor CMOS Sensor. Its imaging area is 58% larger than a Micro Four Thirds imaging sensor and 13× than point-and-shoot imaging sensors. The Sony Exmor APS HD CMOS technology ensures high-resolution images with improved low-light sensitivity and minimal noise. Additionally, the anti-dust technology maintains the sensor surface free of grit. This Sony mirrorless camera has an Xtra Fine LCD monitor that gives a 100% live view of the scene. You may tilt the LCD 80° up or 45° down when taking high or low angle shots. A special resin layer is applied on the LCD to reduce internal reflections. Moreover, the Sunny Weather mode increases the screen brightness when working under sunlight.

Image and Video

The Sony Nex-3 captures photos in a resolution of up to 4592×3056 pixels. You may select the standard JPEG format for quick image sharing or the RAW format for fine-tuning the image look during post-processing. The video mode can be used to record movies in 720p. Thanks to the BIONZ image processor, the image noise is restricted as well as overall performance is enhanced during the 7 fps continuous shooting. The Dynamic Range Optimizer adjusts the image settings when subjects are backlit to recover hidden details. The camera includes up to 8 scene selection modes and 6 creative styles for giving control over the image look.

Other Features

This Sony mirrorless camera accepts two memory cards to increase the overall shooting time. A detachable HVL-F7S flash is provided with the camera, which has a guide number of 7 and synchronizes with the shutter at 1/160th of a second. The camera has a USB 2.0 port for linking with a computer system. Use the HDMI port for displaying images on an HDTV. On a fully charged InfoLITHIUM NP-FW50 battery, the camera can take up to 300 still images.
