Overview
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K gives the high dynamic range of professional movie cameras at your fingertips. It supports attachment of Micro Four Thirds mount lenses. The camera utilizes the 4/3-inch HDR CMOS sensor to capture DCI 4K videos at 60 fps. You can select the 120 fps frame rate to create smooth slow motion videos in 1080p. The dual native ISO ranges up to 25600 to facilitate low-light shooting while the 13-stop dynamic range retains all the dark and bright details in the HDR image. The 5-inch touchscreen LCD offers a Full HD view of the scene, thus eliminating the need for an external monitor. This Blackmagic camera comes with a mini-XLR input that has +48 V phantom power for connecting professional microphone systems. Additionally, two dedicated ports are given for using on-camera microphones and headphones. The camera is remotely controllable as it features Bluetooth connectivity. Connect an external flash or SSD storage device to the camera via the USB-C expansion port to increase the recording time without any interruption.
Optics and Focus
The Blackmagic pocket camera is designed to work with Micro Four Thirds mount lenses. You can also use PL, C, EF, and other lenses with optional adapters. You can enable the focus peaking function by pressing the dedicated focus button. The camera also supports autofocus functionality when compatible lenses are attached. You can adjust the iris of the current lens in use with the specially assigned wheel and slider on the touchscreen LCD. A separate button is provided to auto-tune the iris of compatible lenses, thus ensuring no cropping in movie mode. The dual native ISO up to 25600 offers stunning low-light performance.
Sensor and Screen
The Blackmagic camera's imaging capabilities are powered by the 4/3-inch HDR CMOS sensor that provides a 13-stop dynamic range. As the sensor is redesigned for Mirco Four Thirds mount lenses, it ensures minimal crop factor to produce a wide field of view. The sensor has a fast refresh rate to diminish shutter artifacts at low frame rates. This Blackmagic camera has a 5-inch touchscreen LCD that lets you compose the shot in 1080p. Double tap on the LCD to enable zoom-in, focus peaking, and focus assist functions.
Image and Video
The Blackmagic Design pocket cine camera records videos in DCI 4K quality in CinemaDNG format at a maximum frame rate of 60 fps. You can also select the ProRes codec to retain the image quality without putting stress on your system during the editing stage. The camera allows you to record Full HD videos at 120 fps to create slow-motion effects.
Other Features
Control the camera remotely by enabling the built-in Bluetooth connectivity. There are four microphones integrated into the camera body to capture clear audio even in a noisy environment. You can insert standard SD, fast UHS-II or CFast 2.0 cards into the camera's memory card slots. The camera also allows recording to an external storage device such as an SSD via the USB-C port. Apart from 3.5mm audio input and output ports, the camera has a 3-pin XLR input with +48 V phantom power for connecting external microphone systems. Along with the camera, you receive the activation key of the DaVinci Resolve Studio software. The camera can be powered by optional LP-E6 type batteries or with the included 110–220 V plug pack.
