Ridiculous Lens: Canon 5200mm f/14 lens

Imagine the following scenario: You are aimlessly browsing Ebay at some god-forsaken hour, gingerly scrutinizing used glass in a near comatose state when all of a sudden something utterly massive enters your periphery:  The Moby Dick of obscure lenses. You do a double take, pinch yourself to make sure that this isn't just the repercussion of sleep deprivation.  No, this behemoth is very real...too real for reality. Against your better judgement, you click onward. The beginning of the end.

Hey man, check out my lens cap that doubles as a trashcan lid.

Welp, Canon has officially gone off the deep end by making an actual Cannon. I might joke around a lot, but seriously this lens in unparalleled in its level of absurdity. So what are the specs on this tank? It's 20" x 24" x "75.6" and weighs in at a spine-shattering 220lbs (not counting support). It has a massive focal length of 5200MM with a maximum aperture of f/14. Couple this guy with a crop body and that means a focal length of something like 8320mm...lets not even get into teleconverters.

Minimum focusing distance is roughly 120 meters, so you'll have to be about a football field away to get any kind of shot. Ultimately it has the potential of taking a picture from 18-32 miles away...What purpose can this scary mass of metal and glass possibly serve other than pure evil? I guess space is the obvious answer when it has the power to magnify something 100x more than a 50mm.

The original Ebay listing has long since become a mirage, but I'm not sure that the seller received any offers with a starting bid set at $45,000 (shipping not included). For all we know, this lens is still floating around...We're gonna need a bigger tripod.
