Although digital cameras have made photography accessible to basically anyone with a phone, the physical print seems to be left out in the cold. Fortunately for those who enjoy the look and feel of a print, Polaroid will be opening the first of potentially many "Fotobars". These retail locations will allow people to wirelessly upload images from their phones to workstations where they can edit them with various filters (more filters??) and other effects before printing. Aside from making prints, these Fotobars will be able to host classes, private parties and gallery space to show off work. The first store is set to open in Florida and later in other major cities throughout 2013.
Polaroid will also be announcing an Android-based mirrorless interchangeable lens camera at next weeks CES. The IM1836 (hopefully a tentative name) will feature Android 4.0 with a 3.5" touch screen, 18.1 MP sensor, pop-up flash, on-board WiFi, HDMI and Headphone outputs, HD video...the whole shabang. Did I mention it uses Micro-SD cards? Welp, it will. Earlier this year Polaroid was actually the first to put their foot in the door with an Android-based point and shoot which still hasn't been released almost a year later. Nikon would soon announce their own version: the Coolpix s800c. Come to think of it the IM1836 looks awfully reminiscent of another Nikon camera...
