Normalize - The Antigram

If you are one of those people who loathe the trendy hipsters on Instagram (See: National Geographic) this app might be right up your alley. Meet Normalize, an iOS app that will turn any of your heavily filtered daydreams into just another crappy cameraphone picture. It's basically a no-button fix for over-saturation, white balance correction, and contrast and exposure issues. Does this mean people are already sick of Instagram or are people just drinking too much haterade?

The ongoing struggle between the purist and the instagramist is kind of humorous. It's a little reminiscent of photography around the 1900s when the weird, glowy, soft-focus images that were birthed by the Pictorialists fell out of favor for a more straightforward variety. No darkroom tricks. Just whatever was in the frame. Perhaps the first example of this change was a famous photograph called the "The Steerage" by the flip-flopping, but influential Alfred Stieglitz. This document of immigration was considered extremely "modern" for it's time.

Anyway, if you're going out of your way to be a  #nofilter vigilante and you're willing to pay one whole dollar on something like this maybe you should reevaluate some things.  In theory you could use this to remedy any old image with some awful color shifts from your camera's befuddled white balance, but can't you just do that in photoshop? If you were really that concerned with quality wouldn't you much rather just pick up a real camera?
