Near Silent Snappers: Fujifilm's New Quiet Shutter System

As the Fujifilm X100s and X20 make their way to the US, news about the new cameras continue to trickle out from various sources across the Web. We already posted some sample shots from the much-anticipated (by this photographer, especially) X20, and now we have news that Adobe's Camera RAW software has been updated in preparation for the new cameras. That's all well and good, but here's a little something to further whet the appetites of Fujifilm shooters out there. Thanks to YouTube user nycphotog2006, we now have a quick demonstration of the extremely quiet leaf-style shutter system found in the new cameras. Above is a video clip of the X20's stealthy shutter sound, a mere faint click. I had to turn my sound up!

Not only does the leaf-shutter design keep things on the hush-hush, it also allows for very high sync speeds with flashes due to its difference in design from focal plane shutters. All very exciting. Keep up with Unique Photo here on the blog and on our Facebook page, as we will undoubtedly have reviews of the new Fujifilm gear soon!
