Mobile Round-Up 9/28

So the highly anticipated iPhone 5 was released this week, and despite all the heckling over the addition of one row (here's the prospective version in 10 years) and fooling pedestrians into new product hype hysteria, Apple reported over 5 million units sold in only three days. How bout dem apples?

Just in time for it's release, Engadget decided to put the iPhone 5 and other popular smartphones up against the Lumia 920 in a low light test. Although none of them could really compare to the Lumia's low light capability, the iPhone 5 performed pretty well as the runner up. It's mortal enemy, the Galaxy SIII, received the lowest marks.

Before they go and celebrate their new camera, Apple might have another problem besides some scuffed up shipments (totally normal by the way...). User's are reporting a phenomenon of strange purple lens flares in their images. While it's not a universal problem, there are theories that the cause is either the new sapphire lens or its lack of an IR filter. I mean, it's definitely a look for those who embrace color shifts (and Hendrix solos), but Apple might have some 'splaining to do. Nonetheless people aren't happy.

You might want to wait for Apple to resolve this issue before you go ahead and use this new app. One Memento is an iOS exclusive photo app that is more of an experiment than anything. It raises the question of what one would photograph if they had only one shot to share with the world. After that you can't take any more pictures, but you can still share your memento and comment on others. Better make it count! Only 250,000 images will be collected and hosted on an online gallery.

If you're one of the few who are actually content with last years model and don't feel the need to throw money at every apple product the day it comes out, Manfrotto is introducing a new accessory for iPhone 4/s that will help you get that one shot. Yep, you heard right, the tripod company is delving into the convoluted smartphone accessory market. The Klyp is a new case that will allow attachment to mini-tripods and LED light panels. Say goodbye to those blurry/harshly lit self-portraits. It will be available online in October and will go for around $40.

And finally, I can't really find a segue into this one...I present to you Photogachi. You might recall the 90's Tomagatchi craze which this app is heavily influenced by. The concept is similar in that you take care of a digital "pet", but similarities begin to stray when you have to feed your little monstrosity pixelated images that you take. It will   grow and morph corresponding to the type of pictures you feed it. If that sounds ridiculous, it's because it is. The app isn't available until October, so you'll have to wait before you get addicted and need to reevaluate your morals.
