"Just what place you might take in this growing industry depends on your abilities and inclination, but if you have a sincere interest in photographic work, it would be worthwhile to investigate the field carefully. Some phase of photography might become your life work."
Warm up the DeLorean, we're going back to a time when photography was still a fairly new and exciting career with many opportunities. This 1940's educational film from the Your Life Work series explores "the universal hobby" as a means for a promising future, from the commercial photographer to camera manufacturer to photo lab assistant and everything in between. It's amazing (and sort of depressing) how things have changed...mainly since most of these jobs aren't necessary anymore. Thanks digital technology. If you think the job market sucks, keep in mind you don't have to retouch negatives by hand anymore. One thing hasn't changed though: "The best salesmen are those who know photography and are able to answer the customers many requests for advice." Having knowledgeable staff with a strong background in photography is something we at Unique Photo have always prided ourselves in and we don't plan on changing that in the future.
