The annual Las Vegas Consumer and Electronics Show (CES) doesn't officially start until tomorrow, but today is press day! Canon announced four new "A" series point and shoot cameras. The models announced today are the A3300, A2200, A1200, and A800. Sorry guys no 5D Mark VIII, 1Ds Mark XXII, or even a Rebel t10i. The "A-Team" is Canon's most bare bones line of point and shoots, but they're always a hit because of their value. If you're looking for a simple and easy to use camera that you can power up with AA batteries (In the A800 and A1200), look no further than the A-Series Powershots. Three of the models (the A800 excluded) also record 720p HD video! That's a first in budget point and shoots. Some more of the specs and pictures of the cameras are after the jump/break. You may not find the A-Series to be the most interesting, but they are the grunts of the PowerShot army and do the dirty work selling a bunch to consumers looking for simplicity and value without sacrificing image quality. Information and pictures are courtesy of Canon USA. Wow I can't imagine a better camera for $90... I don't think Canon has ever released a sub $100 point and shoot. The A1200 also looks promising with it's extra large buttons, optical viewfinder, and 720p HD video. To me the A2200 is the least exciting, because the biggest difference seems to be the Lithium rechargeable battery. The "Discreet" shooting mode is a good idea. It disables the flash, AF assist, and annoying BEEEP! noise that most point and shoots make. Although this may be useful for certain things like recitals, don't forget to turn it off when going back to normal shooting conditions! Anyway here are Canon's latest A-Series point and shoots. This is a line that I could eventually see being trimmed down to one or two inexpensive models, but for now there is still enough of a market for four.
