Welcome friends, another work week has come to an end which can only mean one thing. Flickr Friday. I know, you've been looking forward to this as much as I have. It's amazing how quickly the week goes by, but what's even more amazing is seeing your work. Once again, keep it up!

Today's photo of the week come from Tom H Haas, titled Day Dreaming (Thinking of you)... dunno if he was channeling Aretha Franklin with the title, but I'm digging the photo nonetheless.

Day Dreaming. (Thinking of you)

Oh my Bokeh! I say that in a good way (even though it's become the yolo of photo talk). I'm a fan of portraits with shallow depth of field...who isn't? Curmudgeons that's who. Often you'll see someone shoot wide open and the only thing in focus is maybe an earlobe. That's nice and all, but what we're generally aiming for is the eyes because they tell a story. Here the story is about longing; someone deep in a heavy thought of something or someone...but who knows, maybe she's thinking about Quantum Mechanics, the tragedy that is Lindsay Lohan or the new Cool Ranch Taco. It's open to interpretation even with something as simple as a face gesture. I guess you can tell I read too much into photos...What I can tell for certain is that this was done with natural light. This is only because the catch light in her eye is so damn sharp that you can see the window and probably even the no good cat hanging outside staring down birds. The way he did this is pretty nifty too. Instead of just taking a picture at f/1.4 he tried a method that's popular in Video called Lens Whacking. This is basically a poor mans tilt shift, as it bends the focusing plane depending on the angle you have the lens at. Also you have the lens completely detached from the body so it's a bit tricky to pull off without looking like it was done with a Lensbaby. Not to mention all the potential crap you can get on your sensor. Anyway I really like this portrait and I hope you do too. Great job Tom!

Another Friday down, don't forget to join our Flickr group if you haven't already. See you next week!
