Why won’t my Yongnuo RF-605N triggers fire a YN568EX off-camera flash?

I’m using two Yongnuo RF-605N transceivers with a Nikon D750 and a Yongnuo YN568EX, but I can’t get the flash to fire off-camera. One RF-605N is on the camera and the other is under the flash. I’ve already matched the channel and group. The RF-605Ns seem to communicate, and they work as shutter triggers, but the flash still won’t fire. The flash does work in optical slave mode from the camera’s flash. What should I check to get the RF-605Ns firing the flash reliably?

Couple of other things to check:

  • Are both of the YN-605Ns in the same 603/602 mode?
  • Is the YN-568EX out of all slave modes? [slave modes tell the flash to only listen to the sensor panel and to ignore the foot--the radio triggers are on the foot].
  • Without the camera or flash, does using the test button on the transmitter 605N fire the receiver 605N? (check indicator lights).
  • Is the group you're using set to fire on the transmitter?
  • Are all batteries in good health and fully charged?
  • Have you checked how the transmitter is seated on the camera hotshoe? (i.e., pushed all the way forward?)
  • Have you checked that all contacts/pins are clean?

Check the basic setup first:

  • Make sure both RF-605N units are in the same radio mode (603 or 602 mode).
  • On the transmitter, confirm the selected group is actually enabled to fire.
  • Take the YN568EX out of any optical/slave mode. In slave modes, the flash listens to its optical sensor and may ignore the hot shoe/foot connection from the radio trigger.
  • Test the RF-605Ns by themselves: press the test button on the transmitter and see whether the receiver responds correctly.
  • Check battery condition in both triggers and the flash.
  • Reseat everything carefully: the trigger on the camera should be pushed fully forward in the hot shoe, and the flash should be fully seated on the receiver.
  • Inspect and clean the hot shoe contacts and pins on the camera, triggers, and flash.

Since the flash works optically and the RF-605Ns work as shutter triggers, the most likely issue is setup mode, group enablement, slave mode on the flash, or a contact/seating problem rather than a failed flash tube.
