Why won’t my off-camera flash fire with the trigger and receiver?

My flash fires normally in its test mode, but when I use it off-camera with a trigger and receiver, it will not fire. The trigger shows a red light on test, but the flash does not respond, and pressing the shutter does nothing. I have already replaced the batteries, the flash is set to manual, and I’ve checked that slave modes and other settings are off. It was working before and suddenly stopped. What should I check to troubleshoot the trigger/receiver setup?

Make sure the trigger is fully seated in the hot shoe because this is the most common cause of flash equipment suddenly not working.
A second common cause of flash not firing is setting the camera shutter speed above the camera’s maximum sync speed. It is not uncommon for cameras to disable flash firing electronics when the shutter speed is too high.

If the flash’s own test button works but the trigger’s test button does not fire it, the problem is most likely in the trigger/receiver link rather than the camera.
Check these first:
- Make sure the transmitter is fully seated and locked in the camera hot shoe.
