Why is my Nikon D3300 Live View black when attached to an 8SE telescope?

I’m using a Nikon D3300 in Live View on a Celestron 8SE telescope while trying to view planets. I can’t seem to see anything on the Live View screen. What am I doing wrong, and why might Live View show nothing through the telescope?

Can you see anything in the liveview when you look at something else? Do you see anything in images if you've taken them? - mattdm
This is important. If you see on normal daylight conditions, it is simply that live view has a maximum framerate.
It is arround 1/30 because it is a video feedback. If your exposure is too dark, for example to take a picture you need 10 seconds, the live view simply won't display it.

Generated from our catalog & community — verify before relying on it.
First, check whether Live View works normally in daylight or on other bright subjects. If it does, the issue is likely exposure, not a camera fault.
Live View is essentially a video preview, so it is limited to a relatively fast refresh rate. If the image coming through the telescope is too dim and would require a much longer exposure to record, the Live View feed may remain very dark or appear blank because it can’t display a long-exposure preview.
So, through the telescope, you may simply not be getting a bright enough image for Live View to show. Planets are small targets, and if the scope is not accurately pointed or focused, they can be very hard to detect on the screen.
In short: if Live View works on bright daytime scenes, you’re probably not doing anything fundamentally wrong—Live View just may not be sensitive enough in this setup unless the target is bright and well-centered.
