Why doesn’t one Yongnuo flash blink its red slave indicator light in slave mode?

I have two Yongnuo YN568EX II flashes. On one unit, when I switch to slave modes (Sc, Sn, S1, or S2), the red indicator light blinks as expected. On the other unit, the flash works correctly as a slave, but the red light does not blink at all.

I’m using them with a Canon 600D. Is this likely a fault, or is there a setting that controls the slave indicator light?

There may be a setting to turn on and off the blinking light. As on my YN600EX-RT I am able to turn it on and off on the setting.

On the YN600ex-RT; Hold the 'ZM/C.FN' button for around 5 sec, then nivigate to 'SL IND' via the wheel and click set to turn on and off.

If the flash is firing normally as a slave, the missing blinking red light is likely just a setting rather than a fault.

Some Yongnuo flashes have a menu option that turns the slave indicator light on or off. On the YN600EX-RT, for example, you can access custom functions by holding the Zm/C.Fn button for about 5 seconds, then find the slave indicator option (“SL IND”) and enable or disable it.

So the most likely explanation is that the indicator has been switched off on that unit. Check the flash’s custom function/settings menu for a similar slave-indicator option on your YN568EX II.

If the flash continues to work properly in slave mode, the lack of blinking light by itself does not suggest a functional problem.
