Why doesn’t my HDR TIFF from Photomatix or HDR Efex Pro appear in Lightroom’s filmstrip?

When I send bracketed photos from Lightroom to Photomatix Pro or HDR Efex Pro and save the HDR TIFF, the new file is created but doesn’t appear in Lightroom’s filmstrip. I can find it later in the Library by clicking the folder, but not in the current filmstrip view. What causes this, and how can I make the HDR TIFF show up in Lightroom after saving?

Assuming you're not in a collection, the HDR image will show up in the filmstrip. In the screenshot along with your question, I can see that you're in the "Previous Import" collection.
Because the resulting HDR image was not part of the previous import, it's not in that collection.
If you were viewing the "All Photographs" grouping, you'd see the HDR image appear in the filmstrip.

Usually the HDR TIFF is being added to Lightroom, but your current filmstrip view is limited. If you’re viewing a collection such as Previous Import, the new HDR file won’t appear there because it was not part of that import. Switch to Library > All Photographs or the actual folder to see it.
Also check these points:
- In Photomatix, enable Automatically Re-Import into Lightroom Library. HDR Efex Pro has a similar return/import behavior.
- If stacking is enabled, the HDR image may be hidden inside a stack with the source files until you expand or unstack it.
- With HDR Efex Pro specifically, sending files via Export may return the finished image to Lightroom more reliably than using Edit In.
So the fix is usually: use the proper export workflow, make sure automatic re-import is enabled, and view All Photographs or the destination folder rather than a restricted collection.
