Why does my Nikon D70 show red stripes in photos and on the LCD?

My Nikon D70 is showing red stripes on the LCD, and the same stripes appear after I download the photos to my computer. I already tried a reset/reboot suggestion from another post, but it did not help. Does this sound like a setting issue, or could the camera have a hardware problem such as the sensor or display?

If the red stripes appear both on the camera’s LCD and in the downloaded image files, it’s probably not just a screen-only problem. A normal reset on the Nikon D70 mainly restores settings, so it usually won’t fix a hardware fault.

One thing still worth trying is removing the battery for an extended period (such as 24 hours) and then powering the camera back up. If that does not change anything, the issue likely points to a hardware failure rather than a menu setting.

Based on the symptoms, service/repair is the practical next step. If the stripes were only on the LCD, the display hardware would be the likely cause, but since they also show up in the saved photos, the problem may be deeper in the camera’s imaging electronics.

Have you taken the battery out for 24 hours, and then rebooted the camera?

On the D70, I am not sure that a factory reset does anything other than change settings, so that may not help.

Sounds like the display hardware. If so, the service depot is your only practical option.
