Why does an Aperture 3 Smart Album include too many images when filtering by flag and label?

In Aperture 3, I’m trying to make a Smart Album that only includes photos that are both flagged and have a label. I set up two rules: one for the image being flagged and one for it having a label, but the Smart Album ends up including all images from the source album. What setting controls whether Aperture matches either rule or both rules?

The problem is that at the top of the settings box, you have it set to choose " 'Any' of the following..." which results in either or both conditions to be part of the selection. Change it to 'All', which will mean both conditions must be true before images are added to the album.

Your Smart Album is likely set to match “Any” of the rules instead of “All.”
In Aperture, Any means a photo will be included if it is flagged or has a label, so the results can be much broader than you expect. If most images meet one of those conditions, it can look like the whole album is being included.
Change the Smart Album rule setting at the top from Any to All. That makes Aperture include only photos that are both flagged and labeled.
