Why do two vertical lines appear in the same place on every photo from my Nikon D5100?

My Nikon D5100 shows two thin vertical lines running from top to bottom in the same position on every image. Anything in that part of the frame is affected. It happens with and without flash. What is likely causing this, and is there anything I can do to fix it?

A NEF file would be good to see before anything, but most probably you need to send the camera for servicing. If in USA, you can try https://repair.nikonusa.com/ProductEntry

If the two lines appear in exactly the same place on every image, with or without flash, the most likely cause is a hardware fault in the camera—usually the image sensor or the electronics that read data from the sensor. This is not likely to be caused by the lens, lighting, or a camera setting.

There isn’t a user fix for this. The best next step is to have Nikon service evaluate the camera, especially since it was recently purchased. If possible, provide an original NEF/RAW file when contacting support, as that can help confirm the issue.
