Which Nikon cord works for off-camera TTL flash on a D7000 with an SB-800 bracket setup?

I use a Nikon D7000 with an SB-800 on a flash bracket, and I want a lighter, less bulky corded connection than the SC-29. I originally considered the SC-15, but then realized the D7000 does not have the Nikon sync cord socket needed for that type of connection. Is there a lighter cord that will still provide proper TTL control from the camera to the SB-800 when mounted on a bracket? Also, what is the extra 3-pin socket above the sync socket on the SB-800 used for?

The "other" socket is for the SD-8A battery pack, an external pack using 6 AA-type batteries for quick recycling. If you want TTL control and need to use a cord (that is, for one reason or another you cannot use the pop-up as a controller, such as with a flash bracket) then the SC-29 is the correct cord. Note that the screw you need is a common thread (1/4-20) and that you should be able to find a replacement of the correct length at any reasonably well-stocked hardware store.

If you want Nikon TTL control with an SB-800 off-camera on a bracket, the SC-29 is the right cord. The D7000 doesn’t have the sync socket needed for the SC-15, and a simple sync connection wouldn’t give you full TTL control anyway.

The extra 3-pin socket on the SB-800 is for the Nikon SD-8A external battery pack, which uses additional AA batteries to speed flash recycling.

So for a bracket-mounted, corded TTL setup, there isn’t a simpler Nikon cord in the information provided that replaces the SC-29 while keeping full functionality. If the issue is mounting hardware rather than the cord itself, the bracket screw is a standard 1/4-20 thread, so you should be able to get a correctly sized replacement screw from a hardware store and make the setup cleaner and more secure.
