Which flash trigger can fire a Bowens monolight from a Fuji X-Pro1 and let the other lights optical-slave?

I have three Bowens 400D monolights and a Fuji X-Pro1. I want to mount a transmitter on the camera hot shoe, connect a receiver to one monolight’s 6.3mm sync socket, and let the other two fire via their optical slave cells. What kind of flash trigger will work with this setup, and is there anything specific I should watch out for with the X-Pro1 or these lights?

Any basic radio trigger will work for this setup. The only issue may be the sync voltage of your monolight. Most radio triggers will not work correctly if the voltage is too high.

Another option is to have all your monolights run as optical slaves and trigger them all by firing a speedlight on your camera at the ceiling (or towards one of the flash heads if you are outside).

A basic manual radio trigger can work for this setup: transmitter on the Fuji X-Pro1, receiver connected to one Bowens light’s 6.3mm sync input, with the other two firing via their optical slave cells.

The key things to check are:

  • The receiver must support connection to a 6.3mm sync socket (or use the proper sync cable/adapter).
  • The trigger must work correctly as a transmitter on the Fuji X-Pro1 hot shoe. Some manual transceivers were designed mainly for Canon or Nikon bodies and may not switch properly into transmit mode on Fuji.
  • The monolight’s sync voltage should be within the trigger’s safe limits, since some radio triggers may not tolerate high sync voltage.

An alternative is to skip the radio trigger entirely and trigger all three monolights optically by firing a speedlight on-camera, bounced at the ceiling or aimed toward one flash head if needed.

So: look for a simple manual radio trigger confirmed to transmit from Fuji hot shoes and connect to a 6.3mm sync port, while verifying sync-voltage compatibility.
